This is one question I’ve been asked a LOT!!
What is the difference between a blog and a website, and what do I need? Do I need both? If you’re new to both it can be confusing. So I wanted to explore this so you can get the clarity you need.
So what is a website?
The best way to think about a website is that it’s your virtual shop. A place where you showcase your products / services and of course yourself. It is THE perfect place to tell people what it is that you’re about, a place where they can connect with you and get in touch.
Traditionally websites were always static. You build it once and that’s it.
What is a blog?
A blog is totally different. Think of a blog as a journal, a diary. A place where you are frequently supplying your audience with interesting and useful content, a place where you share your knowledge, showcasing to your audience that you are indeed the expert. Your visitors to your blog can comment on your posts and start a discussion. A great way to start building relationships.
A blog is and an amazing way to generate leads as you can add things like social media icons, social media share buttons, and email sign ups. You can of course also share your blog posts to your social media channels to encourage people to visit. Because you’re updating your blog frequently with fresh content, Google will love you for it! So, you will start to come up on search engines and people will begin to find you organically.
The beauty of having both a website and a blog
Because Google and other search engines LOVE fresh content, it makes total sense to merge both your website and your blog. Having a blog on your website will encourage people to visit your blog and then see how you can help them, and how they can work with you.
That is the beauty of using WordPress, you can have both in once place.
Other benefits of having a blog on your website are:
- Fab for SEO (search engine optimisation)
- A reason to drive traffic to your website
- Full exposure to your whole business
- Ease of design & having everything in one place
So my thoughts…
Whilst websites and blogs serve different purposes and both work in different ways, both are VERY necessary to increase your online visibility and to boost your credibility as an expert
