So you want a website for your business.
You head to Google and type in ‘how to build a website’, and BAM! You have a ton of different options, WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, Wix, Weebly….. WHAT THE ACTUAL F……
You go to your trusted Facebook community and you ask the same question…..
Guess what… you get the same options… Holy Sh1t you’re overwhelmed and confused.
You get a few web developers pop up suggesting WordPress….then some people will say nah use Wix it’s easy.
You cry into your hands and just give up for a bit…..
So… here I am telling you WHY WORDPRESS is where you should be looking.
This blog I will go over why, and hopefully give you more clarity to moving forward.
Why use WordPress?
Like I said before, when you’re searching for a way to build your website you’ll see the names Wix, Shopify, Squarespace and others pop up. They are all great platforms to build a website and all have their own benefits, some are used for different purposes however. For example Shopify is used for an ecommerce solution, so makes sense if your main business is a store.
Wix and Squarespace are great if you just want a website, and not really looking to expand beyond that.
So, WordPress is completely free to use.
WordPress.org is the version you want, and this is a self hosted version, where you’ll need to buy a host. This ranges from around $3 a month.
Besides, that you don’t have to pay for anything else. So it really is a great affordable way to build a good solid website for your business.
You can make any kind of website – it’s totally scaleable
Back in the day, WordPress was the place to go if you wanted to build a blog, but it has changed so much over the years that you can literally build any kind of website you want, and it will grow and change with your business needs. such as
- Online store
- Business directories
The list really is endless.
You can add any kind of file type
You can literally add any kind of media to your website to share with your audience, from images to PDFs, audio files and video (although I’d recommend hosting your video on Vimeo / YouTube and embed as this can slow down your website)
Easy to learn and has a MASSIVE community
WordPress is what you called ‘open source’ , and it therefore has a ton of resources, I mean thousands and thousands of online tutorials, forums, Facebook groups of all abilities.
All you need is the time to sit and absorb that information. Yes, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but I guess that’s why I’ve developed the Academy so that I can teach you how to use WordPress without you having to spend endless hours trawling for the answers.
Grow & Scale
I’ve already touched a little on the fact that WordPress is fully scaleable, and I stick by my word. It has endless amounts of plugins which allows you to add additional features to your website, majority of which are free, there are thousands of themes you can choose from to change the look and feel of your website.
You want to add a shop.. sure there’s Woocommerce. FREE
You want to add a membership – well there’s a ton you can choose from – Best ones are range from around $100.
With the likes of Squarespace and Wix, you have a monthly fee, PLUS you pay for each additional feature, which aren’t as good as the one you can choose from WordPress developers.
Maintenance isn’t hard or expensive
Once you learn the ropes, it really isn’t that hard to manage and maintain, and a good reliable host will help you should you encounter any issues.
SEO is great
WordPress is well known for great SEO, unlike WIX (sorry Wix).
Getting a little technical, but it automatically generates title tags & meta descriptions for your pages and posts, and you can go deeper with your SEO by installing great plugins such as Yoast SEO to enhance your searchability
You are in the driving seat of your website
You’ve no doubt already search for ‘how to build a website’ and probably come across a ton of other options such as squarespace, Wix, Weebly. Whilst these are great for a quick fix solution, you are extremely limited by what you can work with. They’re template based, so anyone who uses those platforms will be using the same ones.
Why do you want to be the same as someone else? I don’t.
WordPress allows you complete control of your website, you can build a unique design that no one else has, that is totally aligned with your brand.
Blogging is the bees knees!
My opinion, blogging with WordPress is the best experience I’ve had. It’s super easy to do, and you can give access to other experts who can also become guest experts on your blog. I’ve seen people create full media magazines, video channels and podcasting channels, all on their website using the blogging feature.
So there you have it! MY LOVE for WordPress, and I can guarantee, once you start using it, you’ll share my love for it too.
